Can you believe it’s October already? Autumn is one of my favourite seasons; Halloween, the crisp air and sound of crunchy leaves, Pumpkin Spiced Lattes and cosy candlelit evenings. What’s not to love of this autumnal month!
It’s the time to wear cute boots, funky tights and wrap up in glorious textures and rich tones. Rather than feeling it’s drudge and sludgy I like to take inspiration from the gorgeous colours on the leaves such as the russet reds, golden amber and vibrant greens. I love to see how autumnal shades can work together tonally to create a palette of vivid warmth.
When it gets to this time of year it can be hard to get the balance right between feeling too warm, or cold. Layering is key in creating outfits with pieces that can be taken off or built upon. I was very very (very) taken with this ‘coatigan’ and safe to say it went straight home into my autumn wardrobe this week - oops, sorry...not sorry! This item is super cosy, in Rust, THE colour for autumn, it also has fabulous structure to allow an easy transition between smart and casual. A coatigan, basically a cross between a coat and a cardigan is a super staple to have in your wardrobe. Often a cardigan, however warm it keeps you, doesn’t always give the structure and smartness you want. I have it on in a 16 so it’s true to size as I’m usually between a 16 and 18. They were going quick when I was in having my weekly play around so make sure you don’t miss out my lovelies! It also comes in a soft grey.
Turtle necks - to wear them or not? They do keep your neck lovely and warm, I usually have them as a layer and I would either add in a long pendant necklace to create a more streamlined look. Or a statement necklace if you wanted to open up the neckline. I’m loving the colours of both that are pictured and don’t be afraid to match tone on tone - super flattering. If you think Brown is boring - fear not as London Fashion Week was all over it and stylists mixed it up with orange tones - declaring it the colour of the season,
When you’re building your autumn capsule wardrobe you want pieces that you can mix and match. The featured coatigan and fine knits could be paired simply with trousers/skinnies, or why not try with a checked skirt. What a fab autumnal look. These were my two favourite skirts in Next. We have the heritage check - bang on trend for just now, and a playful twist in brighter tones. All you need is coloured tights/knee-high boots and we have at least 4 or 5 looks.
Make your wardrobe ani-mazing this year with colourful animal print and rich jewel colours...I love this whole story. And the boots...oh dearest Santa or Halloween fairy can I have them pretty please! Don’t the tones just work amazing together? SOOO striking but still a beautiful blend. The suede jacket is super soft and is shown further down with a sequin tunic, make the most of this bold beauty!
If you do prefer softer colours then have a play with pink. Not just for summer, particularly blush pink so flattering and illuminating for the complexion and often thought as youth enhancing. I’ll take that please! Feel all pretty in pink with this beautiful coat from Lipsy at Next complete with gorgeous cuff detailing in the sleeve. The shoe boots are just beautiful and paired with the berry pull-on leggings to create a fresh and feminine autumnal look. Individually they could be paired with charcoal or navy tones for extra framing and strength of the silhouette.
It’s soon going to be party season and I know you might think it’s only October but I always say if you see something that catches your eye but you have no event as of yet ... just get it! How many times have you went looking for something for a night out, Christmas party etc etc and can’t find anything? Chances are the minute you buy that sequin number an invitation will come your way. And as I always say ‘Sparkle - not just for Christmas’ so by pairing either the sequin tunic with the stunning purple suede jacket or slipping the sparkling cami under a blazer you can Shimmer & Shine that night with understated style.
Lastly let’s leave the final word to this Multi Tonal Animal Print Tote Bag - it has bags of style! Imagine how many outfits this treasure could update, elevate AND totally make! All the excitement of Autumn is wrapped in one perfect little package just for you! Hands up who’s off to buy one?
