Following a particularly busy tourist season and strong trading run-in to Christmas Scoop AM LLP, as asset managers of the Eastgate Centre, are delighted to report that a number of high-profile national retailers have agreed to extend/renew their leases including Waterstones, Laura Ashley and Boots. In addition, the former A Jones unit has been re-let to national health-food retailer, Grape Tree. Terms have also been agreed with a fashion retailer for the former Ed’s Diner.
Whilst normal leasing has continued apace the owners of Eastgate have also been reviewing the future of the Food Court area of the scheme. The lease to the current operator expires naturally in March and this provides an opportunity to re-imagine, reconfigure and refresh the space to provide a facility more in keeping with the requirements of today’s customers and operators.
Since the Food Court opened in 2003 catering offers in Shopping Centres have moved forward with many moving away from centralised seating areas. Our ambition is to create a new vibrant food offer for Eastgate which is complimentary to both our retailers and our customers. The opportunity will also be taken to improve sight-lines across to the retail units which have hitherto been partially obscured by the existing food kiosks. The attached visuals provide a feel for the new Food Hall.
Negotiations are already under way with a number of potential new operators. Working with our agents we are confident that we can bring a new and varied offer to Eastgate including evening dining in the proposed restaurants facing Falcon Square.
The whole development for both daytime and evening catering which is expected to start later this year will be market led. The market will dictate the phases in which the development is delivered.
There will continue to be a strong catering offer whilst we work to deliver the new Food Hall. Retailers such as The Filling Station, Pizza Express, Costa Coffee, Subway, Fuel Juice Bars, Debenhams Restaurant, Starbucks and Community Café will continue to cater for visitors to the Centre.
Mark Hewett of Scoop AM says: “This is an exciting time for Eastgate Centre as the scheme bucks the national trend by attracting new retailers. We are constantly striving to make the shopping experience more pleasurable for visitors and to provide all of those services the modern customer rightly expects to find within a development. A modern and appropriate catering offer is central to this and the opportunity to reconfigure the Food Court is one we have been keen to grasp”.
